NSP announces the home calling of Mrs Voncille Ekwere

LATE VONCILLE J. EKWERE

1931 – 2016

It is with a heavy laden heart and with gratitude to God Almighty that the President and the governing council of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy inform the general public of the passing of our friend and mother; Mrs. Voncille J. Ekwere, a committed member of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy.

After a very brief illness, she departed this earth on 1st January 2016
 

A commendation service will be held in United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church), No.12 Mbukpa road, Calabar, Cross River State on the 28th of January 2016 by 9:00am. 

Burial and thanksgiving service will be held, 10:00am on 29th January 2016 in Nda Nsit, Nsit Atai LGA in Akwa Ibom State.

Birth and Parentage: Mother Ekwere or Von, as she was popularly called, has some heritage of the Cherokees; Native American Indian.  Both her parents are natives of the state of Alabama USA. She was the first child of William E. Jones and Julene Storrs.

Education: She grew up in Tuskegee and was a mentor to all of her younger cousins.  Von graduated as a Physio-Therapist from Tuskegee Institute now Tuskegee University located in Tuskegee, Alabama - USA.  

Marriage: During a church program in the State of Indiana - USA, she met the man who later became her husband. They were married 13th June 1959 in AME Zion Church with Efiong’s brother, Mr. Itieurua Udo Equere (Executive Management staff under former President of Central Bank of Nigeria - Late Clement Isong) as bestman.

Achievements: Von was Charter President for the Inner Wheel club, the sister club to Rotary Club. Swe was also a member of the Greek Sorority; Delta Sigma Theta. She was a committed member of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP). A life member of Niger Wives (foreign women living in Nigeria and married to Nigerian men).

Death: She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, one child, and her only sibling, a brother.

Dear Robert,

Kindly accept my sincere and deep condolence for the call to glory of one of our own and your dear mum. This is another great loss to the NSP. The‎ almighty God will grant you and other members of your family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Please take heart.

As you prepare for the burial arrangement we commit you in the able hands of the Almighty God.
